Sheykhî
Sheykhi, whose real name was Sinan, was born in Germiyan in Asia Minor and, Gibb notes, was the first of the Ottomans to write a romantic poem; his pen-name marks his standing as sheykh, or chief, of the poets of his age.
The poems here are taken from E. J. W. Gibb's Ottoman Poems (1882), the first English verse translations of Ottoman poetry; dates and biographical details follow Gibb's Biographical Notices.
