Karl Simrock

1802–1876

Karl Simrock was born at Bonn, where he later became professor of German literature. He is known for his modern German versions of the Nibelungenlied and the Edda, and wrote poems of his own.

James Clarence Mangan (1803–1849) translated this poet in his German Anthology (1845); the poems here are his English versions, as reprinted in Poems, ed. John Mitchel (New York, 1859).
