Horace Smith

1779–1849

Horace Smith (1779–1849) was a London stockbroker, novelist and poet. With his brother James he wrote Rejected Addresses (1812), a book of parodies of the leading poets of the day, supposedly submitted for the opening of the rebuilt Drury Lane Theatre.

The poems here are the pieces that James Parton assigned to Horace Smith in his anthology The Humorous Poetry of the English Language.

  1. A Tale of Drury Lane
  2. Drury's Dirge
  3. Address to a Mummy
