John Lancaster Spalding

John Lancaster Spalding (1840–1916) was an American Catholic bishop, the first Bishop of Peoria (1877–1908), an educator and a writer of essays and verse.

The poems printed here are those given in Stedman's An American Anthology, 1787–1900 (Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1900); the text is taken from that anthology.
