John Sterling

1806–1844

John Sterling (1806–1844) was a Scottish-born writer and a friend of Thomas Carlyle, who later wrote his Life of John Sterling.

The poems here are taken from Alfred H. Miles (ed.), The Poets and the Poetry of the Century (London: Hutchinson, 1891–1897), vol. 4, from the Internet Archive scans of that edition. Spelling is that of the anthology; Miles's biographical essay and extracts from longer poems are omitted, and only poems that could be read cleanly from the scan are included.
