William Strode

1601–1645

William Strode (1601–1645) was an English poet and clergyman, Public Orator of Oxford University and Canon of Christ Church. His verse circulated in manuscript and was first collected long after his death.

The poem here is the one printed under his name in Frederick Locker's Lyra Elegantiarum (London: E. Moxon, 1867), an anthology of vers de société and vers d'occasion by deceased authors; the texts follow that first edition.

  1. My love and I for kisses play'd
  2. Chloris in the Snow
