Sultan Murad II

d. 1451

Murad II, sixth sovereign of the House of 'Osman, is described by Gibb as the earliest Ottoman monarch to encourage poetry by his own example, the first of the long line of poet-sultans.

The poems here are taken from E. J. W. Gibb's Ottoman Poems (1882), the first English verse translations of Ottoman poetry; dates and biographical details follow Gibb's Biographical Notices.
