Ta'abbata Sharran
Thabit ibn Jabir, called Ta'abbata Sharra, was a famous warrior of the tribe of Fahm, which dwelt in the Tihamah between Mecca and the sea. Lyall cannot say exactly when he lived but judges, from the contemporaries named in one of his poems, that he flourished about the time when the Prophet was living at Mecca.
He belonged to the class of warriors called the 'Ravens of the Arabs', born of Abyssinian mothers and Arab fathers, who made their raids on foot; he claims in his verse to be a runner of matchless speed, and he is linked in tradition with ash-Shanfara. His poems are thoroughly pagan in spirit.
