Tannhäuser

fl. c. 1245–1265

Tannhäuser was a wandering minnesinger of the mid-thirteenth century, at the court of Duke Frederick II of Austria, about whom later legend made him the knight of the Venusberg.

Three of his songs appear here in Frank C. Nicholson’s translation, Old German Love Songs (1907), made from the minnesingers of the twelfth to fourteenth centuries.

  1. The Grateful Lover
  2. Virtus post Nummos
  3. The House-Builders
