Tao-yün

c. AD 400

Tao-yün (c. AD 400) was the wife of General Wang Ning-chih. According to Waley the general was so stupid that she finally deserted him. Her poem, “Climbing a Mountain,” imagines a lodging for ever in a hollow among the rocks.

The poems here are Arthur Waley’s version in A Hundred and Seventy Chinese Poems (1918), given with the poet’s name as spelled in those books.
