Esaias Tegnér
Esaias Tegnér (1782–1846) was a Swedish poet, professor of Greek at Lund University and, from 1824, Bishop of Växjö. He was the leading voice of Swedish Romanticism and is regarded as the father of modern Swedish poetry.
His best-known work is Frithiofs saga (1825), a cycle of twenty-four cantos retelling an Icelandic saga, which was translated into English many times in the nineteenth century. This archive carries the 1876 version by Thomas A. E. Holcomb and Martha A. Lyon Holcomb.
