Gerhard Tersteegen was born at Moers in 1697 and died at Mülheim an der Ruhr in 1769. A ribbon weaver by trade, he became a lay preacher and spiritual counsellor in the Reformed Pietist tradition, and published his hymns in Geistliches Blumengärtlein (1729) and later collections.

The English versions here are Catherine Winkworth's in Lyra Germanica (1855).

  2. O Glorious Head, Thou livest now
  3. O God, O Spirit, Light of all that live
  4. Come, brethren, let us go
