Evelyn Underhill

1875–1941

Evelyn Underhill (1875–1941) was an English Anglo-Catholic writer and pacifist, known for her many works on religious practice and on mysticism, notably Mysticism (1911).

The anthology prints her name as ‘Mrs. Stuart Moore’, her married name. The poems printed here are those given in The Oxford Book of English Mystical Verse (1917), edited by D. H. S. Nicholson and A. H. E. Lee; the text is taken from that anthology.
