Wâsif

d. c. 1820

Gibb distinguishes this Wasif from the historian of the same name, who died in 1806, because the poet's Divan contains beyts as late as 1820.

The poems here are taken from E. J. W. Gibb's Ottoman Poems (1882), the first English verse translations of Ottoman poetry; dates and biographical details follow Gibb's Biographical Notices.

  1. O Thou Nîrem
  2. O Rosebud of Joy's Flowery Lea
  3. To Whom That Wine-Red Ruby's Shown
