Edwin Waugh

1817–1890

Edwin Waugh (1817–1890), born in Rochdale, was a printer and bookseller who turned to literature and became the best-loved Lancashire dialect poet of his day, known as the “Laureate of Lancashire”.

He also wrote Lancashire sketches and tales, and his collected works appeared in ten volumes in 1881–83. The poems here are taken from Edmund Clarence Stedman’s A Victorian Anthology, 1837–1895 (1895).
