Yang Chi

1326–1378

Yang Chi was a native of Kiang-su who became a district magistrate and afterwards secretary to the Minister of War. According to L. Cranmer-Byng, he was sent to Shansi as Treasurer-General to the Forces, was impeached and falsely accused, and was condemned to life-long exile, during which he wrote the poem given here.

The poem here is L. Cranmer-Byng’s version in A Feast of Lanterns (1916), given under the poet’s name as spelled there.
