The Frogs

A comedy first produced at Athens in 405 BC

by Aristophanes

Translated by Benjamin Bickley Rogers (1924)

Dionysus, sick of the dearth of good poets in Athens, travels to Hades with his slave Xanthias to bring Euripides back from the dead, and ends by judging a contest between Aeschylus and Euripides for the tragic throne, in which their verses are weighed in the scales.
