Bird Parliament

abridged from the Mantiq al-Tair

by Farid al-Din Attar

Translated by Edward FitzGerald (1889)

An abridged English version of Attar's Sufi allegory in which the birds of the world gather to choose a king, are led by the hoopoe through seven valleys, and the few that survive the journey find that the Simorgh they seek is the mirror of themselves.
