Brand
A Dramatic Poem
Translated by C. H. Herford (1907)
Brand, a young priest, preaches an absolute creed: all or nothing. He holds his village, his dying mother, his wife Agnes and his own child to that demand, and the cost rises with every act, until he stands alone on the ice-fields with the mad girl Gerd and the avalanche above him.
