The Duchess of Malfi
The widowed Duchess of Malfi secretly marries her steward Antonio against the commands of her brothers, the violent Duke Ferdinand and the scheming Cardinal. Their spy Bosola uncovers the marriage, and the brothers imprison, torment and finally strangle her, along with her children and her maid. Bosola, sickened by the deed, turns on his masters, and the play ends in a bloodbath of revenge and ruin.
