The Earthly Paradise
Parts II–IV: May to February
Morris's frame story of wanderers who, seeking an earthly paradise, settle in a western city whose elders swap classical and medieval tales with them month by month. Part II holds the tales of Cupid and Psyche, Alcestis, the Son of Croesus, Pygmalion and Ogier the Dane. Parts III and IV add the autumn and winter tales: the Death of Paris, the Land East of the Sun and West of the Moon, Acontius and Cydippe, the Man who never Laughed Again, Rhodope, the Lovers of Gudrun, the Golden Apples, Aslaug, Bellerophon, the Ring given to Venus and the Hill of Venus.
