The First Part of Henry the Sixth

by William Shakespeare

The play opens at the funeral of Henry V, as the English hold France only by the valour of Talbot, whom Joan la Pucelle and the French confront at Orleans and beyond. In the Temple Garden the red and white roses are plucked, and the quarrel of York and Lancaster begins. Suffolk, meanwhile, woos Margaret of Anjou on the young king's behalf, with designs of his own.
