The Second Part of King Henry the Sixth

by William Shakespeare

Henry VI's marriage to Margaret of Anjou opens a reign of faction: the Duchess of Gloucester's sorcery brings down the good Duke Humphrey, murdered at the instigation of Suffolk, who is himself killed at sea by pirates. Jack Cade's rabble rising sweeps London in prose and carnage, while Richard of York throws off his pretence and openly claims the crown, winning the first battle of St Albans and opening the Wars of the Roses.
