The Jew of Malta
Barabas, the richest Jew of Malta, is stripped of his wealth by Governor Ferneze to pay the tribute owed the Turks, and sets out on a course of revenge that costs him his daughter Abigail, a convent of nuns, two friars and his own accomplices. Prefaced by Machiavel in person, Marlowe's savage comedy of greed, religion and policy ends with Barabas boiled in the very cauldron he prepared for the Turkish prince.
