Lybeaus Disconus

by Anonymous (Middle English)

Gawain's son, raised in a forest by his mother and not knowing his own name, takes the armour of a slain knight and is knighted by King Arthur as Lybeaus Disconus, the Fair Unknown. He rides out with the lady Elene and her dwarf to free the Lady of Synadowne, defeating Maugys, Lambard, Gyffroun and other champions on the way, and at last frees the lady from her enchantment by a kiss.
