The Book of the Horse Sacrifice

by Vyasa

Translated by Kisari Mohan Ganguli (published by Pratap Chandra Roy, 1883–1896)

Book 14 of Kisari Mohan Ganguli's complete English prose translation of the Mahabharata, published in parts by Pratap Chandra Roy, Calcutta. The Aswamedhika Parva tells of the horse sacrifice by which Yudhishthira, once the war is over and the kingdom secure, claims the sovereignty of the earth. Before it Krishna relates the Anugita, a philosophical discourse to Arjuna, and Arjuna follows the sacrificial horse on its wanderings, fighting its opponents.
