The Marriage of Heaven and Hell
Blake's satirical prophetic book, engraved in the early 1790s, overturns the moral order of Heaven and Hell: Energy is Eternal Delight, and the Devil's party speaks for Genius and Imagination. Blending verse, aphorism, parable and prose, it sets the Proverbs of Hell beside five Memorable Fancies and closes with A Song of Liberty, a visionary salute to the revolutions of his age.
