The Mighty Magician

Taken from Calderón's El Mágico Prodigioso

by Pedro Calderón de la Barca

Translated by Edward FitzGerald (1865)

In Antioch the scholar and magician Cipriano sells his soul to the Devil to win the Christian Justina, who resists every spell. Cipriano is converted, and he and Justina are martyred together while Lucifer is left to confess his defeat. This is a different play and a different translation from Shelley's scenes of the same drama.
