Oedipus at Colonus

by Sophocles

Translated by Lewis Campbell (1906)

Blind and exiled, Oedipus comes to the grove of the Eumenides at Colonos near Athens, guided by his daughter Antigone. Theseus gives him shelter and defends him against Creon and the pleas of his son Polynices, and Oedipus passes mysteriously from the sight of men, a blessing to Athens.
