Oedipus the King
Translated by Lewis Campbell (1906)
A plague lies on Thebes, and Apollo declares that it will lift only when the murderer of King Laius is found. Oedipus vows to find him, and the search leads step by step to the truth about his own birth and to the fulfilment of the oracle: Jocasta hangs herself, and Oedipus blinds himself.
