The Painter of His Own Dishonour
Translated by Edward FitzGerald (1853)
A nobleman-painter, Don Juan Roca, brings his bride Serafina to Naples, where the Prince of Orsino is smitten with her. Her former suitor Alvaro, long believed drowned, returns to carry her off, and Juan, in the name of his honour, kills them both. FitzGerald's free version of Calderón's El pintor de su deshonra.
