The Rope

by Plautus

Translated by Henry Thomas Riley (1852)

A comedy of shipwreck and recognition: a storm raised by the star Arcturus wrecks a procurer's ship off the coast near Cyrene and casts two girls ashore at the temple of Venus, where a fisherman hauls up in his net a wallet whose trinkets reveal that one of them is the lost daughter of the old exile who lives next door.
