The Shield of Heracles

by Hesiod

Translated by A. W. Mair (1908)

A prose version of the poem on Herakles’ combat with Kyknos, son of Ares, built around a long description of the hero’s decorated shield; ancient tradition ascribed it to Hesiod, though its authorship is doubtful.
