Love

Her Answer

From A Poetical Rhapsody (1602), ed. A. H. Bullen (1890–91)

Love

Sweet Lord, your flame still burning,
And your consuming anguish,
Cannot be more than mine, in which I languish;
Nor more your heart is moved,
To end your grief and mine, so long time proved:
But if I yield, and so your love decreaseth,
Then I my lover lose, and your love ceaseth.
