Book IX, 799: On the Porphyry Column in the Philadelphion
Translated by W. R. Paton (1916–18) · From The Greek Anthology (Loeb, vol. III, 1917)
Musenius is a well-wisher of the Emperor. Public works proclaim it; the force of facts is strong. He presented Constantinople with a Museum and with a splendid painting of the sovereign inside, an honour to poets, an ornament of the city, the hope of youth, the instrument of virtue, the wealth of good men.
This translation is printed as prose in its source edition.
