Book XIV, 114: Oracle given to the Mother of Alexander at Cyzicus
Translated by W. R. Paton (1916–18) · From The Greek Anthology (Loeb, vol. V, 1918)
The Persians slew my servant, their leader, by violence, and the earth of his home covers his corpse. Whoever shows his white bones to the sun shall break the great force of Persia within. It lies inside Asia in a circumscribed island, by the laurel and streams of the old man Pelius. Seek for a seer to show thee the way, a Phocian who dwells by the sands of Aparnis.
