Living
Book IX, 186
Translated by W. R. Paton (1916–18) · From The Greek Anthology (Loeb, vol. III, 1917)
These are the volumes of Aristophanes, a divine work, over which the ivy of Acharnae shook in profusion its green locks. Look how the pages are steeped in Dionysus, how deep-voiced are the dramas full of terrible grace. O comic poet, high of heart, and worthy interpreter of the spirit of Hellas, hating what deserved hate, and mocking where mockery was due! OT
