Living

Book IX, 27

by Archias 1st century BC

Translated by W. R. Paton (1916–18) · From The Greek Anthology (Loeb, vol. III, 1917)

Living

Keep well thy speech as thou goest past me, Echo who am a chatterbox and yet no chatterbox. If I hear anything I answer back the same, for I will return to thee thy own words; but if thou keepest silent, so shall I.- Whose tongue is more just than mine ?

This translation is printed as prose in its source edition.
