On Iosephs Cloake
From Two Bookes of Epigrammes, and Epitaphs (1639), Book II
Social Commentaries
The Snake his slough, the Dove her plumes doth cast,
(Whose innocence and prudence hold we fast)
As Joseph left his garment, yet retain'd
A jewell, which once lost is ne're regain'd.
Thus stone-cold chastity farre off doth flye,
And Lust assumes the Cloake of modesty.
