A false World?

by Thomas Bancroft fl. 1633–1658

From Two Bookes of Epigrammes, and Epitaphs (1639), Book II

Social Commentaries

This crooked World is serpentine,
And poysons doth with pleasures deale,
Just as the Snake doth brightly shine,
Yet banefull venome doth concile.
So one faire fruit deform'd us all,
Whence all our lives like leaves doe fall.
