Gold like straw

by Thomas Bancroft fl. 1633–1658

From Two Bookes of Epigrammes, and Epitaphs (1639), Book II

Social Commentaries

Straw ripens Fruits with kindly heate (we know)
Yet serves in hot Spaine to conserve the Snow,
That cooles their Wines: so warmes deceitfull gold
The heart with joy, yet makes Devotion cold.
