Social Commentaries
Of abstinence
From Two Bookes of Epigrammes, and Epitaphs (1639), Book II
Social Commentaries
Daniel by abstinence disperst abroad
Those steshly vapours which becloud the mind,
And saw thereby the misteries of God
More cleerely than the rest of humane kind:
For fasting (that lusts fervour doth allay)
Makes us as Eagles sharpe, and apt to pray.
