Social Commentaries
Of Hypocrisie
From Two Bookes of Epigrammes, and Epitaphs (1639), Book II
Social Commentaries
Hypocrisie, like Ieroboams wife,
Walkes in disguise, and rather acts a life
(Vpon this trifling stage of vanity)
Than leads one, that her manners may discry.
For though an outward forme they beare,
Plucke off her Maske, and (oh) the Devill's there.
