Love

Epigram XLIII. To a sad Widow

by Alexander Brome 1620–1666

Translated by Alexander Brome (1664) · From Songs and Other Poems (1664)

Love

While widdow'd wife, for thy drown'd husband thou
Dost with perpetual tears thy cheeks bedew,
Eterniz'd in three graves his happy shade,
In water twice, and once in Earth is laid.
