Love

Madrigal (To be a Whore, despight of Grace)

by Charles Cotton 1630–1687

From Poems on Several Occasions (1689)

Love

To be a Whore, despight of Grace,
Good Counsel and an ugly face,
And to distribute still the Pox,
To men of wit
Will seem a kind of Paradox;
And yet
Thou art a Whore, despight of Grace,
Good Counsel and an ugly face.
