Love

Though you be not content

by Francis Davison c. 1575–c. 1619

From A Poetical Rhapsody (1602), ed. A. H. Bullen (1890–91)

Love

Though you be not content
That I, poor worm, should love you,
As Cupid's power and your sweet beauty cause me;
Yet, dear, let pity move you
To give me your consent
To love my life, as law of nature draws me:
And if my life I love, then must I too
Love your sweet self, for m,y life lives in you.
