The Mind

I know lives I could miss

by Emily Dickinson 1830–1886

From Further Poems of Emily Dickinson (1929)

The Mind

I know lives I could miss
Without misery,
Others—whose instant's wanting
Would be Eternity.

The last a scanty number,
'T would scarcely fill a two,
The first—a gnat's horizon
Could easily outgrow.
