Emily Dickinson

1830–1886

Emily Dickinson (1830–1886) was an American poet who lived a famously reclusive life in Amherst, Massachusetts, writing nearly 1,800 poems of which barely a dozen were published in her lifetime.

Her tightly compressed, slant-rhymed verse on death, nature, faith, and the inner mind — much of it untitled and left in small hand-sewn booklets — was published posthumously and is now considered among the most original in American literature.
