The Mind

The power to be true to you

by Emily Dickinson 1830–1886

From Further Poems of Emily Dickinson (1929)

The Mind

The power to be true to you
Until upon my face
The Judgment push His picture
Presumptious of your place—
Of this—could man deprive me,
Himself the Heaven excel,
Whose invitation yours reduced
Until it shone too small.
