Book IX, 569: From his book “On Nature”
Translated by W. R. Paton (1916–18) · From The Greek Anthology (Loeb, vol. III, 1917)
I have been a boy and a girl, a shrub, a bird, and a warm-blooded fish of the sea. Hail! my friends who dwell in the citadel of the great city, yellow Agrigentum, observers of righteousness. Know that I, no longer a mortal, but an immortal god, sojourn here honoured by all as is meet, crowned with fillets and flowery garlands.
This translation is printed as prose in its source edition.
Codex Note
Paton marks the second part with the remark “(From his Purifications)”.
